Azmin’s ‘right’, Najib takes dig at Covid-19 success claim

Former prime minister Najib Razak says the fact that the capacity at ICU wards has been breached is another 'mark of success'.

Najib Razak told Azmin Ali, that Malaysians ‘enjoy resting at home and staring at the ceiling’ for nine months.
PETALING JAYA:
Najib Razak has taken a sarcastic dig at Azmin Ali after the senior minister claimed that Putrajaya had not failed in containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

In stating that Azmin was “correct”, the former prime minister said Malaysians “enjoyed resting at home and staring at the ceiling” for nine months.

The rate of ICU bed occupancy, Najib said, had breached capacity for months.

“This too, is a mark of success,” he said in a Facebook post.

Najib went on to recap the statement by the King and Malay Rulers, who took note that the daily Covid-19 cases were high despite the Emergency as well as their concerns for the country’s economy.

Earlier today, Azmin, the international trade and industry minister, dismissed claims that the government had failed to contain the pandemic in the country.

He argued that Putrajaya had instead managed to reduce the infectivity rate, or Rt, as well as the number of daily cases after implementing stricter movement restrictions, including the third movement control order.
