The company confirmed yesterday that it had terminated the services of a number of its Pos Riders due to an excess in the number of couriers.
It said it had to let go of them as there had been a decline in demand due to an increase in delivery services established over the last year.
This had led Pos Malaysia to give priority to its own permanent employees.
In a statement today, Pos Malaysia said those laid off would be the first in line should the company need more part-time couriers during certain periods.
“The volume will naturally increase as there are peaks to the demand for courier services.
“This includes special sales by retailers, festive periods, special date sales (such as 9.9 or 11.11) and the like.
“This will enable the Pos Rider agents to take advantage of the surge and Pos Malaysia to maintain cost efficiency.”
