
Tarmizi said he believes he contracted the virus from two of his officers who were positive earlier.
“Two of my officers who were with me throughout (last week’s Dewan Rakyat meeting) were reported positive on Aug 2 and myself on Aug 6,” he told FMT.
He said two tests, on Aug 1 and Aug 2, had both been negative. “Then on Aug 3-4, I started to feel unwell, so yesterday I did the PCR test again and the result yesterday afternoon found me positive,” he said.
Tarmizi said he was currently undergoing self-quarantine at home and in good condition, although suffering from mild symptoms of cough and flu.
The two aides were confirmed positive after a screening at Parliament House on July 29.
Earlier Public Accounts Committee chairman Wong Kah Woh had confirmed that an MP who attended a PAC meeting on July 28 had been reported positive for Covid-19. He said the MP had not attended the committee meetings last week.
Yesterday, the health ministry said a total of 85 people have tested positive for Covid-19 so far; the cases were linked to the special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat on July 26 to July 29.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said six samples, most likely to be of the Delta variant, have been detected.
