
In a Facebook post, he said this would equate to 40% of the total population of the country, adding that this would be good news for Malaysians as Merdeka Day approaches.
He added that the government was on track to meet its projection of fully vaccinating 100% of adults, or 80% of the total population, by the end of October.
“I’m confident that this target can be achieved, based on the national Covid-19 immunisation programme (PICK)’s performance, which has been very encouraging so far.
“Based on data locally and in foreign countries, the number of cases in Category 4 and 5 as well as fatality rates will drop exponentially when vaccination rates soar,” he said after a briefing by the Covid-19 vaccine supply access guarantee special committee (JKJAV).
Today, Malaysia saw 17,236 Covid-19 cases, with the total number of infections now standing at 1,279,776. Yesterday, a record high 360 deaths were reported.
However, vaccinations have been one of the positives over the past month, with about 500,000 jabs being administered daily.
Muhyiddin announced yesterday the relaxation of several rules for those who have been fully vaccinated, effective tomorrow. The rules include dine-ins and inter-district travel for those residing in states under Phase 2 of the national recovery plan.
