Two days ago, a netizen who goes by the handle @winraffm, uploaded an eight-second video in which a health officer was heard telling him he could not record himself getting his vaccine shot.
“KJ has resigned,” the officer said, referring to the minister’s initials. “According to the health ministry’s procedure, you cannot film it.”
A hand, allegedly belonging to another officer, was also seen covering the camera.
Khairy, who was earlier named to the post, responded “Assalamualaikum,” a greeting in Arabic.
It was retweeted over 27,000 times and garnered over 29,000 likes.
Social media users were quick to chime in.
One@Fadzli_ii joked that the officer who said Khairy had resigned was “shaking (in her boots) right now”, while user @Radin_Era called on the officer to “respond” to Khairy.
One also called for the health officer to be sacked, telling Khairy to “show your power”, while @iskandariaaa_ said the officer was a goner.
@Ebelle85 said that the person the health officer said had resigned, is now her “big boss” at the ministry, while @AshmitS wrote: “Haha. Greeting like a boss.”
Some also came to the health officer’s defence saying it was indeed the ministry’s SOP that such recordings could not be made.
One @Mizzurah said that when Khairy had resigned from the Cabinet, health officers would revert to the ministry’s previous policy.
Last month, Khairy who was then in charge of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme (PICK) said members of the public could record themselves getting inoculated.
He said they could use the recordings as evidence to address issues arising from the vaccination exercise.
