KUANTAN:
Visits to the graves of loved ones is allowed during non-festive periods, subject to compliance with procedures, National Security Council (MKN) director-general Rodzi Md Saad said today.

He said a previous ban on graveside visits was linked to Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Aidiladha celebrations to ensure there was no crowding at cemeteries, as graveside visits were a tradition during these festivals.

Rodzi’s clarification was made after he was asked about complaints posted on social media after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was reported to have visited the graves of his parents today while on a visit to his hometown, Temerloh.

“During non-festive periods, visiting graves is not an issue and is allowed. The important thing is that each visitor must ensure that physical distancing of one metre is adhered to and a face mask is worn,” Rodzi said when contacted here, Bernama reported.

Rodzi said those visiting graves were also reminded to maintain good hygiene to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
