Malaysia pips US in share of population given first dose

Malaysia has vaccinated 61.38% of the population as at Sept 2, edging out the US which has immunised 61.22% of its population.

Malaysia has surpassed the US in terms of the percentage of the population given at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

“The share of people that received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Malaysia has now surpassed the US,” Khairy said in a Twitter post today, citing a graph from ourworldindata.org.

The graph showed that Malaysia had vaccinated 61.38% of the population, slightly edging out the US which has immunised 61.22% of its population.

This follows the 369,280 jabs administered yesterday which brought the total number of vaccinations to 35,519,754.

The Covid-19 vaccine supply access guarantee special committee (JKJAV) said 85.9% of the adult population have been given at least one dose while 65.9% were fully vaccinated.

This also translates to 61.6% of the total population having being given at least one dose or 47.2% now fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 836,488 doses were administered in the US yesterday, with a total 205,911,640 vaccines given in the country and 174,973,937 fully vaccinated according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
