PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed as the chairman of the National Recovery Council.

This was announced by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Mohd Zuki Ali, according to a report by Bernama.

Zuki said the post has the rank of a minister, and the decision was made by the Cabinet on Wednesday, he said.

The council was formed in July to replace the special Cabinet committee that was tasked with managing the national recovery plan.

Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister last month.

Zuki said the appointment was made based on the government’s confidence in Muhyiddin’s ability to spearhead the nation’s recovery strategies, restore the economy, and improve  people’s lives which had been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The appointment has been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, said Zuki.

“The government congratulates Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on this appointment,” he said.
