KJ gives MySejahtera team a week to resolve digital cert issues

PUTRAJAYA:
Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has given the team managing the MySejahtera application one week to resolve issues involving the digital certificate which proves that recipients have been fully vaccinated.

In a press conference, he noted that there were some who were still waiting for their app to show the digital certificate despite being fully vaccinated.

Khairy also said physical vaccination cards issued to recipients can be used as proof that they have been fully vaccinated.

The same can be done for those vaccinated under Selangor’s Selvax programme, as they wait for the digital certificate to appear on their MySejahtera application.

According to Khairy, he also told the team handling the MySejahtera app to figure out a “virtual way” to get those who had been vaccinated overseas to update their vaccination status without having to go to the nearest district health office.

“Right now those who return from overseas have to go to the district health office. That’s too cumbersome. Too much. I have asked the MySejahtera team to find a way to do this online,” he said.

“Of course, we have to make sure there is quality control.”

Previously, the health ministry said returning Malaysians who have been immunised overseas can update their vaccination status at the nearest district health office by bringing along the necessary documents to prove they had received their jabs.

The process could also be done at airports or other gateways into the country by the health officers stationed there.

Meanwhile, on “breakthrough” deaths involving fully vaccinated individuals, Khairy admitted that there were a few, adding, however, that they made up only 0.009% of the total number of Covid-19 fatalities.

Pointing out that this was equal to 90 persons per one million population, he maintained that the vaccines work and do save lives, no matter what type.

“Of course there will be some breakthrough deaths, but you’re better off with the vaccine than without it,” he said, adding that 81% of those who died despite being vaccinated had some comorbidity while 80% were aged over 60.

He also said that of the 2,417 people brought-in-dead, or dead on arrival, as of Aug 31, 86% were not under any kind of medical observation, whether by the health ministry or private healthcare.

“So we will work on this. Among our strategies to reduce the number of brought-in-dead is to ensure that the number of those under some form of medical observation will increase.”
