PETALING JAYA:
The country’s largest vaccination centre at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur was closed tonight, signalling the end of mass vaccinations in Malaysia.

Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who was at the WTC centre, told reporters that the government’s other public vaccination centres (PPVs) would be closed in stages now that most of the adult population has been vaccinated.

From tomorrow, adults and foreigners in the Klang Valley will receive their vaccination shots at government health clinics and district health offices.

Khairy said the PPVs have met their targets though some may still be open to cater to teenagers, and those who have missed out on their vaccinations.

“We are discussing with the science, technology and innovation ministry about closing the large PPVs in stages. “For teenagers, there are still some PPVs which are still being used, a lot of schools are also being used.”

He said the administration of booster doses (a third vaccine dose for the elderly and high-risk groups) will be done at government and private clinics.

“The mass vaccination exercise is over,” said Khairy.

The PPV at the World Trade Centre was the first and largest in the country. In its 50 days of operations, it administered more than 1.2 million vaccine doses.
