Speaking at the wing’s Muktamar, PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said China’s foreign minister Wang Yi had already held high-level bilateral discussions with Afghanistan’s second in command, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

He questioned Putrajaya’s stand on the Taliban administration and said Malaysia had the diplomatic expertise to help Afghanistan’s new government.

“China will channel billions in ringgit to strengthen the Belt and Road Initiative in Afghanistan,” he said at the Youth Muktamar in Port Dickson.

“If communist China can extend a helping hand to Afghanistan under the Taliban why not us (Malaysia), as brothers in Islam?”

He added that continued conflict in Afghanistan would not benefit anyone except the “military-industrial complex”.

Last month, foreign affairs minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Malaysia was taking a cautious approach to the developments in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country on Aug 15.

He said then that no country, including Afghanistan’s neighbours, had yet to recognise the Taliban administration.
