Birthday celebrations go wrong – and 21 pay the price for violating SOPs

Twenty guests at a Segamat entertainment outlet were fined RM5,000 each for flouting SOPs, while the manager of the premises was slapped with a RM25,000 compound.

A total of 21 individuals celebrating a birthday party at an entertainment outlet in Segamat, Johor, were hit with RM125,000 in compound fines.

According to Berita Harian, the group was compounded for violating SOPs during an Ops Noda raid carried out by district police on Sunday.

The manager of the premises was slapped with a RM25,000 compound fine while 20 other individuals, including five women aged between 16 and 62, were each fined RM5,000 for violating SOPs under Phase 4 of the national recovery plan.

Segamat district police chief Bahrin Mohd Noh said five Vietnamese women, believed to be guest relations officers (GROs), were detained along with the premises manager and a male customer.

“The manager and the male customer were arrested for obstructing civil servants while the GROs were remanded for 14 days,” Bahrin said during a press conference today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 6(2) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment, Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 and Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1963.
