Brace for floods, Kuala Lumpur

Water level at the four main rivers beyond danger level, says minister.

The four main rivers in Kuala Lumpur have breached the danger levels, says the environment minister.
PETALING JAYA:
Residents of Kuala Lumpur should prepare themselves for a flood, environment and water minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said tonight.

“Attention Kuala Lumpur residents. The four main rivers have breached their danger levels; Sg Batu in Sentul, Sg Klang in (Jln) Tun Perak, Sg Gombak in Jln Tun Razak and Sg Kerayong at Razak Mansion,” he said in a Twitter post.

“Be prepared for a high chance of floods.”

He added that those who have any related complaints can contact the operations centre at Kuala Lumpur’s drainage and irrigation department at 03-22028142.

Non-stop rain since Friday has left several areas in the Klang Valley inundated by floodwaters, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes and closing several highways.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he had instructed the relevant ministries and agencies such as the army and police to provide all necessary assistance to flood victims.
