No duit Raya? ATMs dry up on holiday eve

Many of them were concerned that the situation may not get any better since there were many city dwellers who would not return to their hometowns for Hari Raya.

Social media users have complained of ATMs running out of cash in the midst of preparations for Hari Raya.
PETALING JAYA:
Some city dwellers’ preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri were disrupted on news that numerous automated teller machines (ATMs) had run out of cash.

Social media users said they have been facing the same problem since Wednesday. Many voiced concern that the situation may not get any better since there were many who would not return to their hometowns for Hari Raya.

“I’ve been to several ATMs since yesterday, plus the ones at petrol stations. There is no cash… how can we celebrate?,” said a social media user known as Zabidi on Twitter.

“The ATM machines are dry, and it’s the same at banks. Sometimes only one ATM machine can be used,” he said, according to Kosmo.

Another Twitter user named Mad Zaid Ceroi said he was unable to even check his bank account balance because of the long queues at ATMs.

Bank customers in Kuantan, Pahang, were faced with the same dilemma, with Faeez Harith stating on Twitter that the CIMB branches near the state mosque and Berjaya Megamall Kuantan had run out of cash.

Today is a public holiday in some states for Labour Day, with Hari Raya celebrated tomorrow and on Tuesday. In other states, the public holidays are from Monday to Wednesday.
