PETALING JAYA:
More than 400 areas in the Klang Valley were hit by unscheduled water cuts at 3pm today, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said.

This is following the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant shutting down due to pollution.

The water concessionaire said the affected areas include Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (196 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (27 areas).

Air Selangor said water tankers would be sent to consumers, with priority given to critical premises.

“Air Selangor is making all efforts to minimise the impact of disruption on the affected consumers.

“Consumers in the affected areas are advised to store enough water while waiting for the water supply to fully recover,” it said in a statement.

The water cut comes while Muslims are busy celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri and busy entertaining guests.

Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS), in a statement, said a pollution incident had been detected at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station intake.

The Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant also had to be shutdown today at 11.30am.

On Saturday, Air Selangor had to temporarily shutdown the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant, affecting the same areas, after a report of odour pollution.

However, upon inspection, no odour pollution was detected and the treatment plant resumed operations.
