After paying a visit to a friend who had a litter of kittens up for adoption, Farina Khalid decided to give one of them a forever home. Nala was only three months old at the time, but the kitten grew attached to her new human from the very beginning.
The adorable cat is now a year old and is extremely affectionate. Farina’s research has led her to believe Nala is a Tonkinese mix.
“Based on pictures I have seen of Tonkinese cats, Nala’s features are very similar,” Farina explained to FMT.
Nala’s fondness for humans has only grown stronger as she herself has grown. She does not enjoy being alone and needs to be surrounded by people.
According to Farina, Nala does not require constant cuddles and pats – as long as she is

This meant, of course, the friendly feline was absolutely thrilled when Farina was working from home as she was able to spend her time snoozing on her human’s desk.
Indeed, Nala is so attached to Farina that, after a two-day stay at a cat hotel, she followed her human everywhere for the next few days – even in the bathroom as she showered!
“I don’t need an alarm clock to wake me up in the mornings because, every day at 7am sharp, Nala scratches at my door begging for attention,” Farina added fondly.
Nala loves not just people but her toys. “Her favourite is this stick that used to have feathers on it. It is just a stick now – she has chewed off all the feathers – but it is still her favourite.”
She also knows how to fetch this stick when it is thrown, though she is known to drop it midway while retrieving it.

Farina notes that – in typical feline form – Nala is more curious than afraid, and her inquisitiveness has even landed her at the vet’s at midnight.
“She has a bad habit of swatting at things, especially insects. So when a bee flew into my house, Nala jumped and smacked it with her paw and it ended up stinging her,” Farina revealed. The little one’s paw swelled and she needed to get it treated. Ouch, poor Nala!
The Tonkinese’s favourite food is wet tuna with prawns, which she gobbles up within seconds. Farina also shared, surprisingly, that Nala loves rambutans and – for reasons unknown – “goes crazy over the smell of toasted bread”.
Although Nala has her own water bowl, she much prefers jumping up onto the kitchen counter to drink filtered water from the tap – which she is not supposed to do.
She is also very talkative and responds to Farina, especially when she is being scolded. “Whenever I ask her to get down from the counter, she will meow at me in a high-pitched tone as if she is arguing!” Farina laughed.
