In an interview with Utusan Malaysia yesterday, MACC senior director of investigations Hishamuddin Hashim said three individuals were arrested on March 22 to assist in an investigation into a corruption case involving an MRT construction project worth more than RM650 million.
“As a result of the investigation, we have found some new information related to irregularities involving the MRT and LRT,” he said.
Commenting on the French authorities’ investigation into three engineering companies carrying out the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transport (KVMRT) project, Hishamuddin said MACC was ready to cooperate by providing information.
“However, the process needs to go through the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC),” he said.
The report said the French investigators had sent a formal application to the AGC.
The newspaper previously said the three companies linked to the KVMRT project were being investigated for fraud and corruption after allegedly paying RM54 million in return for being awarded contracts.
It also said MACC was investigating RM30 billion worth of LRT and MRT projects from 2011 until now which were allegedly rolled out by a local firm linked to a French conglomerate which has a record of falsifying safety and quality tests.
In a statement on Monday, public transportation operator Prasarana Malaysia Berhad said it took a serious view of various media reports claiming elements of bribery in public transport infrastructure construction projects.
“Prasarana does not compromise on the issue of corruption in all its affairs,” it said.
It said it will monitor the development of the case and liaise with MACC to get an “accurate picture” before taking any follow-up measures.
