KUALA LUMPUR:
Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin has been named “president designate” of the newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

At a press conference today, PBM president Larry Sng said PBM’s political bureau and supreme council met after Zuraida sent in her application to join the party on May 26, and her membership was officially approved today.

“At the request of PBM’s grassroots, the political bureau and supreme council have unanimously agreed to appoint Zuraida as the ‘president designate’ to drive PBM’s development and progress,” said Sng.

The plantation industries and commodities minister quit Bersatu on May 26, and her future in the Cabinet is still uncertain.

Zuraida, who said she would continue to carry out her Cabinet duties, also said she was open to completing her term as minister.

She added that she had not met Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob yet to discuss her future in the Cabinet.

When asked to comment on PBM’s application to join Barisan Nasional, Sng said the two parties were still conducting verbal discussions.

“It is a process we have already initiated, and we will have to wait for them to consider and discuss,” he said.
