Muhyiddin denies receiving RM1.3 million, willing to be probed

He says he is ready to be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Muhyiddin Yassin said he never received any money from David Tan or anyone else linked with UKSB.
PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has denied receiving funds from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) as alleged by an administrative manager during his testimony in a court case today.

Testifying in Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial, David Tan said the former prime minister received RM1.3 million between June and August 2018.

“That statement is false, and I strongly deny it.

“At the time, I was undergoing an operation and then was on leave for several months for follow-up treatment,” said Muhyiddin, who was the home minister during the time.

“It was impossible for me to receive any bribes from anyone (when I was) in that state. The claim has no basis.

“I have never received, directly or indirectly, any money from David Tan, witnesses from UKSB, its directors or its shareholders.”

Muhyiddin was diagnosed with Stage 1 pancreatic cancer in 2018. He underwent an operation to remove it and also underwent chemotherapy.

Stating that he hoped the case’s prosecution would clarify the matter, he said he was ready to be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Under cross-examination today by lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh, Tan said former Sabah chief minister Shafie Apdal, former foreign minister Anifah Aman, and former deputy foreign minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican were also recorded in a ledger he had of payments to “ministers, politicians and government servants”.

However, Tan did not specify the amount of money allegedly paid to Shafie, Anifah and Reezal.

UKSB managed the foreign visa system (VLN) for Chinese tourists and was appointed by the government in 2016.

The company was implicated in Zahid’s corruption charges, with the former deputy prime minister standing trial on 33 corruption charges.
