Sandakan to get city status in a few months

Sabah deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin says there are plans to boost tourism and the participation of small entrepreneurs in the region.

City status will boost Sandakan’s economy, says Sabah deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin.
SANDAKAN:
Sandakan is expected to be upgraded to a city between August and October, says Sabah deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin.

He said the upgrading was supposed to be carried out early this year, but had to be postponed because of certain constraints.

“Now, Sandakan is ready. The Sandakan Municipal Council has said they are ready for the implementation of city status.

“This will improve Sandakan’s economy,” he told reporters after closing the Keluarga Malaysia Youth Carnival here last night.

According to Bung, Sandakan planned to boost tourism and participation of small entrepreneurs.

“Perhaps we will build a waterfront like in Kota Kinabalu that will attract tourists,” he said.
