
He said there was no other way to win the polls, adding that it cannot be done through “the president’s or the prime minister’s way”, or having “clusters” in the party.
“It has to be one single way — that is the Umno way.
“All factions in Umno must fall in line and unite. There is no need for arguments or politicking, which only serve to weaken Umno internally.
“True, we can’t agree on all matters, but let us not be split over differing views.”
Khaled said Umno must give the prime minister its full support, and the prime minister, too, must support the president.
“Both must act to strengthen each other,” he said in a Facebook post.
“The prime minister must be the voice of Umno and the president must be the spokesman of the Malays. Only this way can the government and party move in unison.”
Khaled said outsiders would love to see Umno split as they know that the party will lose when it is at its weakest, adding that they will rejoice when it falters.
He said the party is not without its problems, but this was to be expected in politics.
“Remember, comrades who fight with each other can always get back together and patch up,” he said, quoting a Malay proverb.
