KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno will not hold any elections for party posts at its annual general assembly in November, its secretary-general Ahmad Maslan confirmed.

This included elections for posts at the branch and division levels, he said.

“Elections will be held after the 15th general election,” he told reporters after attending the party’s Supreme Council meeting here.

Ahmad said this following the green light by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for Umno to amend its constitution and postpone its party elections.

He had previously said that Umno would hold its party elections no later than six months after the next general election.

On a separate matter, Ahmad said that Barisan Nasional-led states would amend its state laws once the anti-hopping law was gazetted.

Last Thursday, the Dewan Rakyat unanimously passed the anti-hopping bill through a bloc vote.

Umno, he said, would consult its legal advisers on the amendments which would need to be made to the party’s constitution.

“In other words, the Umno constitution will be amended again but we will consult our legal advisers (on the clauses).”
