Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee said the coalition supported Ismail’s leadership for the sake of political stability in the country, Bernama reported.
His remarks came in the midst of skirmishing between leaders of Umno and Bersatu over PN’s role in the current government. A recent news report claimed that PN might pull out of the government and withdraw support for Ismail.
However, Kiandee, who is on the PN Supreme Council, said the coalition had given its commitment to continue supporting the prime minister and the current government.
“The mandate period of the 14th general election (in 2018) will end in May next year, so we have given our commitment to continue supporting the prime minister and this government. This is to ensure continued political stability in the country until the general election is called,” he said.
PN comprises Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
In Kuala Terengganu, PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said talk of PN withdrawing support for the government was merely the view of certain quarters.
Samsuri, who is Terengganu menteri besar, said the PAS-led state government was planning to implement more things together with the federal government.
