PETALING JAYA: Umno’s Azalina Othman Said has joined Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh in hitting out at women, family and community development minister Rina Harun over a promotional video which had purportedly degraded women.
Azalina, a former law minister, jibed that Rina’s ministry should just remove the word “women” from its name and change it to “family development ministry”.
“All of the ministry’s efforts in opposing violence against women down the drain. It’s all futile. What a pity,” the Pengerang MP said in a Twitter post.
“Stop violence against women.”
Yesterday, Yeoh, a former deputy minister in the ministry, took Rina to task over the 40-second promotional video for the ministry, in which actor Rosyam Nor could be heard saying that women were tardy and should get up, when promoting an event for the ministry.
Rosyam also said he would beat up the women who wanted to meet him to wake them up.
Yeoh, of DAP, said this was not the first time that Rina had resorted to cheap publicity that embarrassed the ministry, questioning how scripts that made fun of women were approved.
She also called for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to sack her.
