New Covid-19 cases drop by 10.4%, recoveries up 2.8%

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says the number of Covid-19 patients admitted under Category 3, 4 and 5 also dropped by 10%.

The number of Covid-19 deaths decreased to 24 from 26 the week before, bringing the total number of fatalities to 36,398.

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 10.4% last week to 11,018 from the 12,291 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Oct 8, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 was down by 8.3% per 100,000 cases from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients dropped by 10%.

The bed occupancy rate in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres decreased by 1% from the week before.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical beds dropped by 1% while the utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds remains unchanged.

Active cases decreased during the week by 6.4% to 25,731.

“Recoveries increased by 2.8% from 12,534 cases to 12,882,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths decreased from 26 to 24, bringing the total number of fatalities to 36,398.”

He said 4,853,523 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020.
