“We’ll let the voters decide if they want GPS or a Malayan-based party,” Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told FMT when asked to comment on PN’s decision to field candidates for four of the 31 seats in Sarawak.
“We have said it before, let Sarawak parties look after Sarawak.”
Karim is a vice-president in GPS’ linchpin Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
On Tuesday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the coalition would contest in Batang Lupar, Lubok Antu, Saratok and Bintulu.
Last month, Karim urged PN to refrain from contesting in Sarawak, saying it could affect cooperation between the two coalitions.
GPS will also be facing Pakatan Harapan, but Barisan Nasional is staying out of Sarawak.
Former Santubong MP Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, also of PBB, said there was no agreement that PN would not field candidates in Sarawak.
He said GPS would put up a fight in any contest with PN, adding that it was not a matter of friendship or enmity, but of winning.
“We will fight whomever we have to,” he added.
