PUTRAJAYA:
A one-hour downpour caused flash floods in three precincts of the federal government administrative centre this afternoon.

After heavy rain from 3pm, areas of Precinct 10, Precinct 11A and Precinct 9 were inundated by about 30cm of water.

Putrajaya fire and rescue assistant director Afizi Zolkifli said the flash floods were believed to have been caused by a blocked drain.

Firemen cleared the blockage and the water receded completely a few hours later, he said.

A resident of Precinct 11A, Mahathir Hasnan, 28, said this was the first time there had been a flood since he moved there in 2014.

The flash floods also attracted the attention of candidates contesting the Putrajaya parliamentary seat, including Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz (PH-PKR), who spoke to the affected residents.

The Putrajaya Barisan Nasional workers were also seen meeting the residents.
