GE15 result a ‘big sign’ for BN, says Zahid

Election Commission data says BN has only won 24 seats as of 1.50am.

PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the results of the general election are a “big sign” for the coalition after winning only 24 of the 220 parliamentary seats as of 1.50am.

According to Election Commission data, Pakatan Harapan and DAP have won 62 seats in total while Perikatan Nasional and PAS have won a combined 60 seats.

Umno president Zahid said that BN remains committed to forming a stable government and is “ready to set aside our previous differences”.

“In the near term, BN will focus on how we can return the party to its former strengths, face current challenges and understand the needs of the younger generation better,” he said.

“BN is always committed to seeing a strong relationship between the states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak, and we’re ready to be the bridge that strengthens this bond.

Unofficial results have Zahid leading the race for the Bagan Datuk seat with 9,304 votes, with PH’s Shamsul Iskandar Akin trailing with 8,017 votes and Faiz Na’aman on 4,994 votes.

The constituency has 58,183 voters.

Among the big names in BN to have lost their fights in GE15 include Khairy Jamaluddin, Mahdzir Khalid, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Azeez Rahim, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Reezal Merican Naina Merican and SA Vigneswaran.
