
PETALING JAYA: A father and his one-year-old child were attacked by a crocodile while on a sampan in Lahad Datu, Sabah, leaving the man with severe injuries while the toddler has yet to be found.
Lahad Datu fire and rescue department chief Sumsoa Rashid said the incident occurred at 10am near the marine police headquarters.
They were attacked by a saltwater crocodile more than three metres long, with the father sustaining injuries to his head and body while the child was dragged by the crocodile into the sea.
Sumsoa said personnel rushed to the scene when alerted of the incident at 10.25am, adding that the man was saved by members of the public.
“The male child has yet to be found,” he told FMT.
He added that search and rescue operations were underway with help from the police, marine police and health ministry.
