Isham dismisses KJ’s claim on ‘imported delegates’

Umno information chief Isham Jalil says Khairy Jamaluddin must apologise if he cannot prove that 'imported delegates' would help push through the no-contest motion.

Isham Jalil said Khairy Jamaluddin should be aware that delegates attending the general assembly know each other and would be able to recognise outsiders.
PETALING JAYA:
Umno information chief Isham Jalil has denied claims that “imported delegates” were being roped in to ensure there is no contest for the top two posts in the upcoming Umno elections.

Earlier today, former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin claimed that a motion at the party’s general assembly to bar a contest for the president and deputy president’s posts would most likely be “bulldozed” through when it is up for voting this evening.

In a TikTok video, Khairy alleged that name tags on the chairs of delegates were removed to bring in “imported delegates” to bulldoze the motion.

But Isham said that Khairy should be aware that delegates attending the general assembly know each other.

“If there are people that shouldn’t be there, the security personnel would know too,” he said in a statement.

He added that Khairy should come to the hall and point out who were the “imported delegates” as he alleged.

“If not, he should apologise to all Umno delegates and the inspectors for making such a slanderous allegation.” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said Khairy’s claim was uncalled for, especially coming from a former youth leader.

Megat said Khairy’s statement was also politically immature.

“I think it is an embarrassing claim to make,” he told reporters at the party’s general assembly at the World Trade Centre.

Megat also said that all the delegates were well acquainted with one another. As such, there was no possibility of any “imported delegates” being present in the assembly.

Yesterday, when the proposal for the motion not to contest the top two posts was made by a delegate, boos were heard in the hall.
