The former prime minister said Anwar had only made empty promises about reviving the economy and resolving issues affecting the Malays.
“He has issued statements daily about what he wants to do, but nothing has changed.
“He is just making promises to gain support,” Mahathir told reporters after attending a dialogue at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here today.
Present were former Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar and former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Separately, Mahathir said DAP was unable to control him during his second stint as prime minister when Pakatan Harapan was in power.
As the prime minister, he said, he had more power compared to DAP.
“Even (Lim) Guan Eng had to ask for my permission before he wanted to do anything (in the government),” he said, referring to the then finance minister.
Meanwhile, Zuraida said she will be supporting Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming six state elections because of the alliance between PH and Barisan Nasional in the unity government.
“I’m not going to back PH and BN because they formed the unity government together,” said the former plantation industries and commodities minister.
She also said her involvement with Muafakat Nasional was to provide a bigger platform for her to serve the public.
Zuraida is Muafakat Nasional’s deputy president, along with former Alor Gajah MP Redzuan Yusof.
