
“We considered everyone’s views, and (this is) for the sake of everyone, especially teachers and education ministry staff, making plans to go back to their hometowns (for Aidilfitri),” she told reporters at an event today.
Previously, the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) had urged the ministry to give teachers a special day off on April 19 in anticipation that Aidilfitri would fall on April 21.
The public holiday for Aidilfitri is tentatively fixed for April 22.
However, the International Astronomy Centre based in the United Arab Emirates had predicted that the first day of Aidilfitri would fall on April 21.
