The sessions court has acquitted R Sri Sanjeevan of two charges of initiating the transmission of false communications about the police in 2020.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman R Sri Sanjeevan has been acquitted without his defence being called in respect of two charges of circulating offensive remarks against the police force.

Sessions court judge M M Edwin Paramjothy said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused.

“The accused is acquitted and discharged from the two charges and the bail sum of RM40,000 is to be returned,” the judge said.

On June 5, 2020, Sanjeevan was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 with knowingly initiating the transmission of false communications on the police force on March 18 and May 16, 2020 via two separate Twitter accounts with intent to annoy others.

Lawyers S Preakas and Miguel Sequerah appeared for Sanjeevan, while deputy public prosecutor Nurilya Ellyna Nor Azmal represented the prosecution.

The prosecution had called eight witnesses to testify in the case.
