KUALA LUMPUR: Armed forces personnel involved in cases of bullying will face stern action and can even be sacked from the service, says defence minister Mohamad Hasan.
Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, said bullying was an offence under the armed forces’ terms of service and such incidents would not be tolerated.
“If it still occurs and there are personnel who ignore this warning, we will not hesitate to take action (against them), even if it means terminating their services,” he said after an Aidilfitri event here at Wisma Perwira.
Social media had been abuzz after a woman claimed her younger brother, a trainee, was bullied at the Kuantan Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Pahang.
Pahang police later confirmed that four other RMAF trainees had lodged reports claiming to be victims of bullies.
Police also said more than 10 people, including five alleged victims and six others implicated in the incidents, had given their statements.
Mohamad said RMAF had also launched its own internal probe on the case, adding that a report would be submitted to him.
