KOTA KINABALU:
Jannie Lasimbang, the DAP assemblyman for Kapayan, has said she is planning to retire from politics and is currently grooming a possible successor to stand in her place.

“If I could get the right person by (the state election) next year, I would definitely give it to a younger person,” said Jannie, who was also treated for breast cancer in 2021.

“I really don’t mind. I have done a lot of things, I am already 62. I think retirement is good and I am looking forward to it,” she told the New Straits Times, adding that it was ultimately a party decision.

Meanwhile, she said Pakatan Harapan needs to work on bringing more women through the ranks to align with its 30% target for female representation.

Sabah DAP has said it will defend its six seats in the next state election. In 2020, the party secured the Likas, Luyang, Kapayan, Tanjong Papat, Elopura, and Sri Tanjong seats.
