Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim says two local men in their 60s were arrested and have been remanded until May 7.

Police said two local men in their 60s were arrested and remanded until May 7.
Selangor DAP secretary Ng Sze Han denied claims that the vehicle was part of Pakatan Harapan’s campaign activities for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
PETALING JAYA:
Two men have been arrested after a vehicle adorned with several flags, as well as images of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, was seen being driven around Kuala Kubu Baharu, police said.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the men were being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Election Offences Act 1954.

“Yesterday at 6.18pm, a Kuala Kubu Baharu resident lodged a report at his local police station about the possible insult to the king,” he added.

According to Faizal, the complainant said a green 4WD vehicle was driven around town by two men. The vehicle was allegedly adorned with pictures of the king and Anwar, as well as displaying the national, Johor state, and Pakatan Harapan (PH) flags.

“A file has been opened for making a false statement under Section 4a of the Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

“Two local men in their 60s were arrested and remanded until May 7. The vehicle has been seized,” Faizal said, adding that one of the men has a previous conviction.

Meanwhile, both PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have distanced themselves from the incident.

Ng Sze Han, who is the PH election director for Kuala Kubu Baharu,  denied claims that it owned the vehicle, New Straits Times reported.

“We are shocked by this. It has nothing to do with our campaign team,” the Selangor DAP secretary was quoted as saying.

Similarly, Bersatu’s associate wing chief Chong Fat Full said PN had lodged a police report and called for the Election Commission to investigate.

“This should not be happening. They are using the king’s picture as if it is related to PH. Did they get His Majesty’s permission?” Chong said.
