The candidate representing the unity government in the July 6 by-election has been finalised and will be announced at 9pm tomorrow.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli (left) and BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir have been appointed to co-chair the unity government’s election machinery committee for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
PETALING JAYA:
The unity government has appointed PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir to drive the polls campaign for the Sungai Bakap by-election.

The announcement was made by unity government secretariat chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement following a meeting of top leaders from BN and Pakatan Harapan in Putrajaya today.

“To coordinate the by-election machinery, the secretariat has decided to appoint Rafizi and Zambry to co-chair the election machinery committee,” he said.

PKR’s Mohamad Abdul Hamid and Penang Umno chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir will jointly lead in the operations.

Asyraf also said the secretariat had finalised the selection of the candidate and will make the official announcement at 9pm tomorrow.

The Sungai Bakap seat fell vacant following the death of PAS assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24. The Election Commission has announced that the by-election will be held on July 6.

Zamri won the seat in the state election last August, defeating PH’s Nurhidayah Che Rose in a straight fight with a 1,563-vote majority.
