Satees said the family will submit a memorandum to Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain on Saturday to request an independent investigation on the man’s death.
“The family will also send a memorandum to the state prosecution office for an inquest to be carried out to determine the cause of death,” he said in a statement.
He said the victim’s family has “lost confidence” in the investigation being conducted by the police.
Satees said the man’s body was found on March 18, but 100 days have passed with the family receiving no answers about his death.
Yesterday, Timur Laut police chief Razlam Ab Hamid said no evidence of foul play was found at the scene.
Razlam also said an autopsy carried out at Penang Hospital found that the victim had died “from multiple injuries due to fall from height”.
“The case has been classified as sudden death. It is still under investigation and pending the autopsy and lab reports,” he said.
Satees questioned why the police said they were still awaiting the autopsy report when they cited Penang Hospital’s autopsy findings in the same statement.
“Isn’t this contradictory?” he said.
He said the victim’s brother has visited the Timur Laut police headquarters almost weekly for updates but was consistently told that the autopsy report was not ready yet.
“Does it usually take over 100 days to prepare one?”
He said the victim’s family has raised several other questions, including why he was at the police barracks at the time and who was the last person to see him before he died.
He also said the family questioned whether police had investigated the victim’s phone records that showed that he spoke to a police officer living in the barracks.
“The victim’s bag, containing his wallet, ID card, phone, and other documents went missing at the scene. This was reported to the investigating officer but there has been no response.
“The victim’s WhatsApp records on his laptop indicated that his last location was in front of someone’s home in the barracks. Did the victim fall or was he pushed? What role did that person play in this incident?” he said.
