PETALING JAYA:
Amanah Youth is determined to push for its party to field a candidate in the pending Mahkota by-election, even if it means standing against Umno because the Johor government is not a unity government, a party youth leader said.

“Of course, we want this unity government to remain strong and united under Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, but Johor Umno should reflect on itself first and genuinely build the state as a unity government.

“If not, Amanah Youth will not hesitate to continue pushing for the party to contest in Mahkota, even if it means facing a three-cornered fight,” Amanah Youth executive council member Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda said in a statement issued today.

He said the Umno-led Johor government has not allied with Pakatan Harapan (PH), along federal lines, in the state.

However, Barisan Nasional and PH did have a confidence and supply agreement for the current legislative term.

“Amanah has even been denied roles in the formation of council members and village heads,” he said in response to Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros.

Earlier today, Azleen slammed Kluang Amanah for staking its claim to the seat, calling the division “rash and greedy”.

He said such a public demand is disrespectful and insensitive to the family of the seat’s incumbent, Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, who died last Friday.

However, Fadhli said that perhaps when issuing his media statement, Azleen forgot that there is no meaning to unity in Johor.

“Umno continues to make statements that hurt the grassroots and intends to contest seats held by PH and Amanah, including that held by our party president,” he said.
