PETALING JAYA:
A single mother was fined RM2,000 by the Ipoh magistrates’ court after pleading guilty to the charge of using a fake identity card during childbirth in May.

Aishah Ramalinggam, 39, made the plea after the charge was read to her before magistrate S Punitha, Bernama reported.

According to the charge, at 2.30am on May 6, Aishah was alleged to have used a fake identity card belonging to a woman named Liza Baizurah Suliman, 38, in the delivery room at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh.

Aishah was charged under Regulation 25(1) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007).

The court then ordered Aishah to pay a fine of RM2,000 or face two months’ imprisonment.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Vatchira Wong, while Aishah was represented by lawyer G Harbhajan Singh.
