PETALING JAYA:
A Rohingya man was charged in the Alor Setar magistrates’ court today with the murder of his wife and his two children.

No plea was recorded from Abdu Gapur Doli Ahmad, 43, as the cases were under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

In the first session presided over by magistrate Siti Norhidayah Noor, Gapur was accused of murdering his wife, Nor Begam Md Yasin, 34, behind an abandoned building along the Sultan Abdul Halim Highway at 11.30pm on Aug 18.

He is also accused of murdering his year-old son, Abdul Hakim, in front of a hardware store along Lorong Tunku Muhammad, Jalan Pegawai at 12.45am on Aug 19.

In a separate session before magistrate Nur Syifa Hamzah, Gapur was accused of murdering his 10-year-old daughter, Lianaatam, at the same location where her mother was killed on Aug 18.

He was charged under Section 203 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a minimum of 30 years’ imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Gapur also pleaded guilty to consuming amphetamine, methamphetamine and morphine.

Deputy public prosecutor J Banusha and prosecuting officer from the police M Kaneson prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court did not set bail and scheduled Nov 26 for the next case mention, pending autopsy, forensic, and pathology reports related to the murder charges and sentencing for the drug offence.

It was earlier reported that the man was arrested at a mosque in Bukit Pinang, Alor Setar on Aug 19.

His other child, aged five, was unharmed and is under the temporary care of the social welfare department.
