PETALING JAYA:
No Malaysians have been affected by the attacks by Israel on Iran early this morning, says Wisma Putra.

The foreign ministry said the Malaysian embassy in Tehran is closely monitoring the developments and reported that no Malaysians were in the areas that were struck, Bernama reported.

“All Malaysians in Iran are advised to remain calm, stay vigilant and follow the latest updates as well as guidance provided by the local authorities,” it said in a statement.

The ministry also condemned the attacks, saying they constitute a blatant violation of international law and seriously undermine regional stability.

The scale, number of casualties, and damage were still being determined, according to Wisma Putra.

It also said that Israel’s continuous aggression, and acting with impunity, have severely affected and will continue to impact the security and future stability of the Middle East, bringing the region closer to the brink of a wider conflict.

Malaysians in need of consular assistance may reach the embassy at the following address: No. 25, 2nd Alley, North Zarafshan St., Shahrak-e-Gharb, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.

They can also contact the embassy by phone at +98 21 8807 2444 or +98 21 8807 8606, or via email at [email protected].

Earlier today, Reuters reported that Israel hit back at Iran, with its military saying it was conducting strikes against military targets in response to Tehran’s attacks on Israel.

The Middle East has been on edge in anticipation of Israeli retaliation for a ballistic-missile barrage carried out by Iran on Oct 1, in which around 200 ballistic missiles were fired at Israel, Iran’s second direct attack on Israel in six months.

Israel says it has the right and duty to respond to attacks from Tehran and its proxies, which have included missile strikes launched from Iranian soil.

Iran’s state TV said several strong explosions were heard around the capital Tehran. Semi-official Iranian media said explosions were also heard in the nearby city of Karaj.
