PETALING JAYA:
Police have recorded statements from nine people in their investigation into the alleged assault of another cadet at the National Defence University (UPNM) who is said to have suffered cracks on his ribs and spine after being stomped on by a senior.

“So far, nine individuals have had their statements recorded,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said in a statement today. He said the main suspect came to Cheras police headquarters this afternoon to give a statement.

“The suspect was not arrested. Five other witnesses also had their statements recorded as of this afternoon,” he added.

Yesterday, Rusdi was reported to have said the incident took place at 10.45pm on Oct 21 while the 19-year-old cadet was near a field after a roll call.

He said police only received the report on Nov 8 and that the victim is currently being treated in hospital.

It was the second reported case of assault involving UPNM cadets in October.

Last Friday, Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, 22, claimed trial to assaulting Salman Saiful Surash, 20, by placing a hot iron on his chest at the UPNM hostel on Oct 22.

The victim suffered second-degree burns on his chest.

Amirul faces a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine, and could also be whipped, if convicted.
