PETALING JAYA:
Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has dismissed as mere rhetoric Perikatan Nasional’s plan to formulate a state election manifesto centred on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Bung taunted PN for only talking about implementing MA63 now when Barisan Nasional had sought to fulfil the agreement for decades.

He said BN had been working hard to implement it when the party governed both the state and country.

“This is all just political rhetoric because MA63 has mostly been resolved, except for several matters.

“There’s no need (for Sabah BN) to put it in our manifesto because this is something that has been discussed for decades,” the former Sabah deputy chief minister told FMT.

At Bersatu’s general assembly yesterday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin announced that MA63 demands would serve as the core of the coalition’s manifesto for the Sabah state election.

The former prime minister pledged to fulfil every demand under MA63 if PN is given the mandate to govern the state.

Bung claimed that one of the unfulfilled MA63 demands was nearly implemented by former prime minister Najib Razak before BN fell from power in 2018. It concerned Sabah’s demand to be given 40% of the state’s tax revenues from Putrajaya.

“If BN had won (the 2018 general election), we may be seeing it (40%) being paid now,” he said.

In September, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said 11 demands under MA63 had been fulfilled, including the handing over of regulatory power for gas supply and the appointment of Sabah and Sarawak representatives as permanent members on the Inland Revenue Board.
