Power supply in parts of Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri has been fully restored following an outage earlier today caused by a generator trip at the Bakun hydroelectric plant.

Sarawak Energy Bhd said following the outage at 12.57pm, power supply was progressively restored from 1.10pm with supply in almost all areas restored at 2.20pm.

“Full restoration to all residential areas was completed at 3.11pm,” the state-owned utility company said in a statement.

Sarawak Energy’s group CEO, James Ung, thanked the public for their patience and understanding as the company’s technical teams worked to restore supply during the outage period.

“We have sufficient power to stabilise the grid and enough capacity to meet demand following system recovery at the Bakun hydroelectric plant. We have launched an immediate investigation into the cause of the incident.

“Sarawak Energy regrets the inconvenience caused while our technical frontliners worked to safely and swiftly restore power supply,” he said.
