KUANTAN:
Police have denied any wrongdoing in the arrest of two men at Jalan Kuantan-Pekan yesterday, after a video of the incident went viral online.

Pekan police chief Zaidi Zin said the incident occurred at around 9.40pm when officers stopped a Perodua Axia carrying the two men. The suspects were asked to undergo a urine test.

As the suspects, aged 20 and 31, were about to be taken for the test, they pushed two policemen and tried to return to the vehicle, resulting in a physical altercation.

“The two policemen fell and suffered minor injuries. However, both suspects were arrested with minimal force, and there was no wrongdoing by the police,” Zaidi said in a statement.

He said the two suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and investigations into the case are being carried out under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant in discharging their duty.

He urged the public to refrain from spreading negative narratives about police operations, and to cooperate with the authorities as they carry out their duties.

“The public is also urged against speculating on the incident as it may tarnish the image of the Pekan police,” he said.
