“Our commitment is to ensure the cooperation of Petronas and Pertamina, two leading regional giants,” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told reporters at a press conference with Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto.
The two leaders met the press following a meeting at the Petronas Twin Towers on bilateral issues, in conjunction with Prabowo’s first state visit to Malaysia as president, Bernama reported.
Earlier, Anwar and Prabowo witnessed the signing of two letters of intent (LOIs) between Axiata Group Bhd and Indonesia-based Sinar Mas to explore and advance a series of strategic collaborations in the telecommunications sector.
Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Prabowo expressed confidence that Malaysia will be able to resolve long-standing border and labour issues with Indonesia in an orderly and efficient manner.
He said while the issues of borders and labour are long-standing areas of concern, they can be addressed effectively with both leaders’ political will to cooperate.
“Other matters can also be resolved. Technical problems can be solved. But what’s important is that we have the political and strategic will,” he was quoted as saying.
“We can settle border issues, and we will also resolve bilateral and labour matters if we agree to manage them in an orderly fashion.”
Prabowo also stressed the importance of strong cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia, especially amid current global geopolitical tensions and uncertainties.
“That is why, in my view, Malaysia and Indonesia must strengthen the synergy with our Asean partners. Only through excellent collaboration can our collective voice be heard more effectively,” he said.
