Singapore had said earlier the chips were sent to the republic in violation of US sanctions but their final destination remains a mystery.

PETALING JAYA:
The investment, trade and industry ministry is investigating a claim that servers possibly containing artificial intelligence chips powered by Nvidia had been transported to Malaysia from Singapore.

“We will comment once we get further details,” Bernama reported the ministry as saying.

Earlier today, Singapore’s law minister, K Shanmugam, said the servers were shipped from the US to the republic and ended up in Malaysia.

Its final destination, however, remained a mystery.

In January, the US said it was investigating whether DeepSeek – China’s open-source AI platform – bought advanced Nvidia semiconductors through third parties in Singapore, circumventing restrictions it imposed.

Shanmugam had said the route of the chips came about when Singapore authorities were investigating three men charged last week with fraud.

“The question is whether Malaysia was a final destination, or, from Malaysia, it went somewhere else, which we do not know for certain at this point.

“But we assessed that there may have been false representation on the final destination of the servers,” he was reported as saying.
