PETALING JAYA:
A 25-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were arrested on Feb 27 in a raid on Api-api Centre, Kota Kinabalu, for allegedly smuggling over 3kg of methamphetamine worth over RM100,000.

Sinar Harian reported Kota Kinabalu police chief Kasim Muda as saying the two were accused of acting as transporters in distributing the drugs last week.

He said the raid was the result of intelligence gathered by the Kota Kinabalu narcotics crime investigation department and Penampang police.

Kasim said the woman, who tested positive for drugs, was found holding a paper bag in a car driven by the man during the raid, which revealed 1,048.02g of methamphetamine when searched.

This led to a follow-up raid on a house in Penampang where another 2,110.03g of the drug were seized.

“In total, we seized 3,158.05g of methamphetamine worth an estimated RM101,000. The drugs were enough to supply more than 15,000 addicts in the area,” Kasim said in a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters.

He said the suspects were acquaintances who collected drugs from a courier believed to have been sent from Johor.

“They are believed to have been active since last year and were paid between RM2,000 and RM3,000 per kg of drugs. This time, they were paid up to RM6,000,” he said.

Both suspects have been remanded and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
