PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan’s pact for the Sabah state election is a step towards ensuring political stability in the Bornean state, says former chief minister Salleh Said Keruak.

The Sabah Umno treasurer said political stability was crucial for the state, and urged other parties to also work with BN-PH for the sake of its future.

“The agreement between BN and PH opens the door for more inclusive negotiations with local parties. This cooperation must be grounded in sincerity, credible candidates, and policies that serve the people.

“Sabah needs stability. All parties must unite for the future of the state,” Salleh said in a Facebook post.

Earlier, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and unity government secretariat chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced that the two coalitions have agreed to work together to face the upcoming Sabah election.

The agreement was reached at a meeting yesterday between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who chairs PH, and BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Saifuddin and Asyraf said discussions on the form of cooperation would be handled jointly by both the PH and BN leadership in the state.

However, they added: “All final decisions will be made by the top leaderships of PH and BN at the national level.”

Previously, Hajiji Noor’s Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition was also courting PH for an alliance for the state election, which must be held by the end of the year.

PH and GRS are allies in the state government currently, while BN sits in the opposition with Warisan.
